Winner of a stay at the Hotel Iberostar Grand El Mirador – Luxury Hatfield Roadshow

We only had a few days here but what a memorable few days they were. We arrived after a fairly short 15 mins transfer from the airport and we were greeted by receptionist Paola who made the whole process fun. A delightful lady and so welcoming. Non-alcoholic refreshing cocktails were provided as well as cool towels while we checked-in.

Our butler David, showed us around the hotel before taking us up to our room, where he again, thoroughly went through the ‘ins and outs’ of our room. Nothing was too much trouble for him, so helpful and accommodating. The room was decorated in neutral creams and beige’s – very restful and tastefully done We had a separate walk in closet for our clothes, and a nice touch of soft towelling robes and slippers. We had a separate bathroom and within that was a wc and shower with separate doors. Toiletries were by L’Occitane, love this brand. Each night they have a turn down service which includes a cotton mat placed by either side of the bed as well as a naughty chocolate.
The hotel is beautifully landscaped and laid out, there are plenty of luxuriant sun beds with padded cushions and fitted towels as well as our very large beach towels. Lots of areas to sit, both in the upgraded balcony area and by the main pool, and all with beautiful views of the gardens, down to del Duque beach and the sea, or across the incredibly large pool.
The pools, there is also one on the Balconada level which is smaller, were both beautifully heated. The main pool is a magnificent centre-piece of the hotel.
The hotel has a gym, which is big enough and has equipment for several people at once, running machine, cross trainer, bike, rower, weights, bench and floor mats. The big USP for the gym is the location, you open the doors and the sea is ahead of you – plug in your music, start the running machine and enjoy the views. Plenty of gym towels and lemon/cucumber/mint water.
There is a spa but we ran out of time so not used.

Food…..
There are two restaurants – a buffet and a la carte ‘La Pergola’. Breakfast is served each morning in the buffet with an incredible choice. Gluten free choices as well every kind of milk – oat, soya, full fat, low fat for those with dietary concerns. Cereals & seeds, fruits, breads & pastries, yogurts, freshly squeezed juices, cooked choices with eggs cooked while you wait and pancakes. Evening buffet again offers huge choices, soups, salads, chef starters and a choice of hot; as well as a choice of 4 or 5 options that are cooked to order for you and served at the table.
The A la carte had to be booked in advance. We had an excellent meal here and a fine choice of Canarian and Spanish wines were available on the wine list.
Every single staff member we came into contact with was so helpful and friendly (I would say the John Lewis of Customer service), particular mentions to Celeste in the A la carte, Yoiri in the buffet and sorry but several more that I couldn’t catch the names.
Location ….
The hotel looks down onto del Duque beach where you can rent two loungers and a parasol for the day if you want to leave the hotel. There is a promenade running between the hotel and the sea/beach which is always good for a stroll at any time of day. Turning right will take you past several hotels and turning left will take you into Costa adeje passing restaurants and a few bars along the way. We visited one on a couple of occasions that had bright orange sofas/chairs that faced the sea and served a marvellous draft VERY cold beer.
It was easy to hire a car with reception, it arrived the next morning and we took a drive up to El Teide National park and enjoyed the imposing lunar landscapes of this Volcanic area. Recommended, and there are tours too if you don’t fancy driving on the opposite side of the road.
Costa Adeje is an easy 10 minute walk if you want to mooch around shops and there is a market on Saturdays too.
Conclusion….
This is a well-run, 5* luxury hotel that seems to be getting everything right particularly the magnificent staff. The atmosphere is calming and restful and still has a ‘personality’. There are many repeat clients. Its Adults only and there were a variety of ages, 2 young couples arrived as we were checking out and this was their 4th visit. Not only English but also German, French and Dutch a good mix.
When you return back to the hotel after venturing out, it does feel like returning to an Oasis of calm and friends. On leaving my husband said – ‘I’m going to miss this place …..’

Kind regards,

Jane
